New Hobby...

So I am thinking about taking up photography. I witness so many precious moments throughout the day with my girls and I would love to be able to capture it all on more than just a point and shoot type of camera. I am looking into purchasing a nicer digital camera. Anybody have any suggestions? Does anyone know where to look for advice on this topic or follow any photographers?

Let me know if you have any info. that might help me out!

I have a Nikon D-80. You basically take it out of the box and it takes great pictures. I actually bought it with the intention of learning about photography, but it's still on the automatic settings (you know, kids, life, etc. get in the way of "me time")...anyway, my mom has the Nikon D-40, and it's a great camera too. Much lighter than the D-80 and not as many functions, but it still takes great pictures. It actually would've worked for me for a while since I don't use many of the features on the D-80 at this time. Have fun with it, you'll get addicted to the click!

I have the Canon Rebel XTi. I have had it for a few years now and have really enjoyed using it. It is a great "grow with you camera." My sister in law shoots with a Canon Rebel also. She is a lot more serious than I am about photography (she actually has a business doing it). The best bet is to go to the camera store and hold both, play around with both, and talk to the camera guy. Nikon and Canon are your two best cameras and are both pretty comparable.

We just bought a Canon 50D. We did a TON of research and asked several photographer friends and everyone agreed that it is the best. However, we can barely figure out how to turn it on there are so many functions. We are learning.

We have the Canon Rebel Digital! It is great! We went with the Canon because I already had the Canon Rebel SLR camera and my lens from it also works on the digital version of the same camera! I love it! It takes great pictures! Ryan has experimented with it more "off of auto" than I have. I don't have the photography eye like so many people do, but sometimes I get lucky and the camera makes it look like I know what I am doing! : )
